Resolution is measured in the same way as TVs are, and will typically range between 480p (standard definition) and 4K. If you plan to use your projector only at night, you can get away with lower brightness. The higher the lumens the better, and a brighter picture will be more visible in daylight.

They're very good at that price. The things that you need to keep on out for when shopping for the best outdoor projectors are brightness (measured in lumens), resolution, and the minimum/maximum screen size. It'll be much much easier if your budget is around $400-500 (2x-3x higher than your actual budget) because you can choose some brand name projectors like Epson or Benq, or at least ViewSonic, but if you just need to enjoy the entry level of big screen projectors, don't hesitate to buy those cheap $200 ones. If you haven't tried any brand name projectors, you can use those cheap ones, but once you use it, I guess you never come back to those chinese craps again :)

For higher resolution brand name projectors (720p), I think cheap native 1080p projectors cannot compare to those in terms of getting better viewing experience, but the difference is not too big because the advantages of those brand name projectors are brightness + contrast.

I tested all those cheap projectors and I can conclude like that.Īnd one more thing, I'm sure that with those native 1080p cheap projectors, they are always better than any svga or xga brand name projectors in terms of viewing Full HD or 4K movies with A BIG SCREEN (90-100") because this is when the resolution matters. If you want to play game, choose only vertical keystone like vankyo v600 or v620 or anything not 4D keystones. All 4D digital keystone projectors have this problem. V630 has some input lag, and bomaker is also the same. Wimius, bomaker p1 or vankyo v630 are nearly the same in parameters. :) Regarding your question: choose a cheap projector with 4D digital keystone (i.e vertical and horizontal) because it'll help you very much in the set up process. TL DR: it's useless if you ask any questions about not brand name projectors in this forum, people are usually rude and say bad things about cheap projectors (even they haven't had a chance to hand on those, they just read some reviews). I guess no one will tell you to buy those cheap Chinese projectors (but actually I'm using one, it's not bad as they said again and again many time). So if you come to this forum, you can receive ONLY ONE ANSWER. They always encourage you to save to get brand name projectors to have better experiences, but they don't know if you choose to do that, you may have to wait for a long time, maybe a year.

People always tell you to choose brand name projectors, but they don't understand your budget is fixed at around below $300. I'm hoping theres something in the middle worth considering. The enthusiast in me feels like if I'm going to spend $250 on a crap projector like ( ) but thats getting expensive. In fact I'm about one second away from pulling the trigger on something cheap and dealing with the results knowing I didn't spend much. There's a lot of no-name projectors at my price point with unrealistic specs and no real technical reviews, I'm still tempted considering my use.

Speakers are nice, bluetooth is better, line out will work. Most of my content is using Plex, native app support is nice but I'm prepared to use a roku stick so HDMI and one USB are probably a must.

Big bright screen and enough native res to be watchable. I'm not really looking for a good projector but a solid performer in the ways that matter for outside movie nights. Im guessing its a safe bet that any measurably good projector with predictable performance will be outside of my budget. So I'm into HT but not projectors specifically. Usage (Movies, TV, Games, Sports, etc): Movies mostly, ideally casual gaming at 60hz How will you mount (ceiling, rear shelf, table)? Either table or tripod. Seating distance to screen: Very flexible. Screen Size: Bigger=Better but hoping for 200"+ĭistance from the back wall or preferred mounting position to screen wall: Outside so functionally infinite. Maximum Budget: looking for best Bang:Buck, <~$500
